moving with intention

I was reading somewhere about the calories you burn throughout the day and how concentrated exercise is absolutely important but it's such a teeny, tiny part of the calories you burn in a day.  The real calorie burning comes from life.... lots of it is from the powering of your body; heart, lungs, kidneys - you know the important stuff... but then the next biggest part is just how you move throughout the day.  Making dinner, picking up after the kids, doing laundry, going grocery shopping... yadda, yadda, yadda.

And whatever I was reading or maybe I was watching something said one of the best things you can do to add more calories burned throughout your normal daily living.  Like bring in your groceries one bag at a time, put your laundry away in very small piles... that kind of thing.  Just find more very intentional ways to move more throughout the day.

So I've been working on this.  At work - instead of waiting until I have several things to take throughout the office, I take each thing wherever it needs to go as soon as it's ready - even if I know something else will be going to the same place in just another minute or so.  At home, I'm doing whatever I can to find places to move more - in the kitchen, doing laundry, chasing after the kids - whatever I can.

And of course I'm trying to put exercise in wherever I can too - walking around the rugby pitch when Jack has practice, getting in some treadmill time before work - whatever I can.

I just thought I'd through this out there to all of you lovelies.  In fact, I think I'm going to see what my pedometer says I'm doing now - not that I measured it before - but there's no doubt I'm moving way more these days!

Have a lovely week!!

I love this! And I also love the post-title-rhyming you've got going on! Next post: Dealing With Water Retention! Then: Money's Too Tight To Mention! I could go on, but I think we'd all appreciate it if I just stopped...

This post is so true. I wish I had read that article. I have found that even on the days I don't do concentrated exercise. I burn close to 3000 calories.

Thanks for sharing pretty girl.

I love it too, it speaks to me on more than one level- not sure if that was the intention ;)

Great post!

It's called your basal metabolic rate, I loved reading about it when I found it out a while ago!

Great post and so true! Keep moving! When I have my BodyBugg on I find I move a lot more because I love to see the calories and steps going up!

I love this idea! It is perfect for me right now, as i am not going to be able to set up any sort of organized workout for another 10 weeks due to school, so any extra steps I can get in is great!

I'm doing well on the concentrated effort, but I think i'm still sitting still more often that I would like. I need to make more of a conscious effort to move with intention! Thanks Read.

This is so true! When I got my Bodybugg a little over a week ago I was amazed at how few calories I burned on a day to day basis thanks to my desk job. Now, I am trying to make sure to get up and walk around every so often to increase my activity - I love the idea about putting up the groceries...will definately be doing that!

I swear I think of this EVERY time I pile on 10 bags of groceries and drag them all into the house at the same time! I know I should take several trips, but I don't!

great ideas! i walk over to another building at least 20 times a day, dropping and picking stuff up. I also do alot of entering on a computer, so I try to stand while doing that (the computer is on a stand, no a desk).

it's the little things, right?! Little choices to be better, little choices to eat right, little choices to exercise more. All little things add up!

Great reminder!! I've been parking toward the end of parking lots, but I need to look for more ways to add in calorie burn. Hmm...

I did this today - for you....in 5 inch stillettos. I made MULTIPLE trips to the kitchen instead of just one. See how much I love you?
