8 lbs... Seriously. 8lbs What the hell?

This whole thing with my husband is really pushing all my emotional eating buttons.  Some days are better than others at dealing with that but... I've been feeling pretty good food and exercise wise for a couple of weeks and have generally making good choices and all is well.  That's not changed, I'm still feeling pretty good - but I didn't have the best couple of days food-wise.  Not awful, just not great.  Yesterday was worse than Sunday - but... okay.  I'm not going to beat myself up over it.  I'm light years ahead of where I'd be a few years ago - hell, last year at this time.  I got up this morning feeling back in control (and really I didn't feel like I'd lost control so much as I was just doing a little wallowing I think, if you know what I mean).

But seriously people... I weighed 193.6 on Saturday morning.  I worked out on Saturday, but not on Sunday or Monday (can you say hangover on Sunday and I just didn't plan well enough on Monday).  But this morning.... I weighed in at 201.4.  Can we say that again... 201.4.  That number began with a 2, not a 1.  That's 8lbs in 3 days.  I got on the scale this morning, knowing I'd see a gain, hoping it wasn't as bad as 197.  (I knew there'd be some extra water weight because I had some guacamole with chips for dinner last night).   But seriously.  201.4.  How is that even possible?

Anyway - jeez.  I'm not even all that stressed over the number because it's just so ridiculous - onward and downward.

On another topic...

Teddy calls me when he gets home from school and says:

Hypothetically speaking (this is never a good way for my son to begin a sentence) if Jack's bike were to be hanging from the opened garage door, hypothetically speaking, sort of dangling there by a handle.  I'm not saying this has happened of course, but hypothetically speaking - if one were to see a bike hanging from an open garage door... um... what might one do about that?

Me: hypothetically speaking, how might such a thing occur?

Ted: hypothetically speaking I might plug in the code to open the garage door and when the door opened the bike might have gotten caught on the handle and just gone up with it.... hypothetically speaking.

Me: Close the door.

Ted: Oh.

Weigh in day

First my weigh ins.  I didn't really realize I'd skipped two weeks of weigh ins.  I think that's not a good thing for me.  I truly think the accountability of weighing in here publicly is an important piece of the puzzle for me.  It isn't always true, as sometimes I'm just an airhead, but often if I don't lay it out there publicly it's because I'm not doing well.  And as we all know too well it's just damn easy to pile one bad day onto another and one bad week onto another, etc.

In this case - hiding was definitely the reason for the first skipped one as I'd gained roughly 1 million pounds in a one week period and refused to even get on the scale.  I did get on for the start of the spring challenge on 3/6 and I weighed in at a whopping 197.4.  And I'd been below 190 the week before.  Oops.  Some of that was no doubt water weight as TOM came to visit the very same day, but certainly not all of it.  Then I decided to move my weigh in day to coincide with the challenge weigh in - so today's weigh in was 194.2.  Still too much - but seriously not bad considering how I ate after Jack was so damn bloody earlier in the week.

Onward and updownward!

Weigh in day

Today is 189.6 which is 3.4 down from last week and 45.4 down in total.  Yay for 45!

This 10 lbs was very, very hard to get rid of - it took three solid months.  I'm very hopeful the next 10 won't take the same amount of time - but as long as I'm heading in the right direction I'll continue to be grateful.

Weigh in day

It's a Christmas miracle.  As I whined mentioned before, on Tuesday of this week I weighed 199.8 which came as a scary slap in the face and I've been on the straight and narrow ever since and...

Today I weighed 194.0 which is .2 down from 2 weeks ago (I forgot to weigh in last week) and 41 down in total.  I'm still not moving my ticker up.  I just don't wanna!

Weigh in

Today was 194.2 which is up 3.4lbs for the week and down 40.8 in total.

It definitely wasn't my best eating week, as this new fill level is a really different place for me.  I have more in me, but I can eat a much bigger variety of food.  I don't think there's anything I can't eat which is fantastic.  My quantity per sitting has gone way down which is also fantastic.

While there's no doubt I ate some things this week that I don't normally eat, I was a little surprised at the size of the gain.  I thought I'd stay the same or maybe be up 1/2 lb or possibly a lb, but clearly I was dilusional.  But, it is what it is.  I'm posting it which is not always an easy thing for me (the bad as well as the good.)  And I'm working out and I'm figuring out the eating part as well.

I wish you all a good week!

Weigh in day

Today I'm 190.8 which is down 2lbs from last week and down 44.2 in total.

I had been in the 180s a few times this week when I couldn't eat anything, but clearly my body needed to hold onto some much needed food and water once I got the unfill.  I love being right on the cusp of 45 down... yippee.

Weigh in...

Today was 192.8 which is 1.4 down from last week and 42.2 down in total.

At this rate I'm clearly not going to reach my goal of 50 down by February 2nd, but at least I'm not running in the other direction at the mere mention of a goal, so I'll definitely take it!!

weigh in day...

Today was 194.2 which is down 2 from last week and down 40.8 in total.

I was stuck at 196.4 all week long despite exercising 4 days and eating very well (as in, just how I wanted to be eating).  It was a little odd, but I wasn't stressing about it (much) as I knew I was doing all the right things.  Then I got the big 'ol fill yesterday and didn't eat much of anything after 2pm... and then today I woke up and was down 2.2 lbs from yesterday.  Whatever, I'll take it!

I hope everyone has a fantastic week!!

Weigh in day

Today is 196.2 which is up 1.6lbs from last week and down 38.8 in total.

Eh.  I'm okay with this gain as it makes perfect sense.  I ate a lot, and I do mean a lot, of junk over the Christmas weekend.  I got it back under control when I went back to work on Tuesday afternoon and was actually at a lower weight yesterday, but then we went and ate a super yummy (if MIL filled) dinner at a hibachi restaurant last night - can you say amazing sauces and lots and lots of salt.

I did have one tiny moment that sort of freaked me out though.  Last night as I went to bed feeling all kinds of bloated, knowing I was going to have a gain this week, I had this moment where I thought - hey, I'll just skip this week's weigh in.  I know I'll have a loss next week and we'll pretend like this never happened.  Now a part of me truly doesn't want to get so hung up on any one thing that to skip a weigh in would be a big deal - but that kind of thinking is a little frightening for me.  It's the bury your head in the sand kind of thinking that's helped me stay overweight my whole life.  If I just ignore it, then it isn't really happening.  The thought was fleeting - but still - it really surprised me to even be there at all.  And it frightened me a little that it's there.  I guess I can't expect all my old thought processes to magically disappear, but still... I thought it was best to get it out there in black and white so I can look back and remember - and so I can tell those negative thoughts to go fuck themselves.  You know what, I gained this week and I might gain next as well.  I'm okay with that.  It's a journey.

Weigh in day

Today is 194.6 which is down 2.4 lbs for the week (yay!) and down 40.4 lbs in total (super-yay!!)

My band and I didn't get along so well this week and that, no doubt, helped.  He (I think it should be a he despite the fact that I previously gave it a girl's name - I may have to rethink this) didn't think eating very much solid food was such a good idea this week.

On the other hand - the... uncomfortableness... I felt after a few incidents really kept me purely honest about following any and all band rules - and maybe for truly the first time ever I felt like I got it a little bit more than I had been.

Any way you slice it, though - I'm down 40 friggin' pounds and that's a damn good Christmas present!!

weigh in day

today was 197.00 which is down .2 from last week and 38 in total.

eh.  so I stayed basically the same.  I thought I was going to gain as my frenemy TOM is still visiting and well, I made the 6th batch of pumpkin bars (from Paula Dean) last night for yet another event today.  We'll see what happens next week - I think there are less events.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week!!

Weigh in day

Today I was 197.2 which is miraculously down 1lb from last week (there was a serious amount of sweets left over in my house) and 37.8 in total.

Weigh in day

Today was 198.2 which is down 1.6lbs from the last weigh in (two weeks ago as I was on vacation last week) and 36.8 in total.  I'm thrilled - don't get me wrong - but knowing me and my pace in general - slow and steady wins the race - it's totally why I picked a turtle on my weight ticker. LOL

Hallelujah... I made it to onederland!

So it's been weeks and weeks since I first saw below 205 and was what I considered withing spitting distance of onederland, in fact I just went and looked - it was October 22nd.  So now on November 19th I finally see that one as the first number.  Thank the heavenly Lord above. phew.

I'm really not good at goals.  I always do things to sabotage myself as I get close to any goal - It's the biggest personal flaw I want to change - but that's a whole different issue.  I had a very, very quiet - hush, hush sort of goal-lite of reaching this mark before we went to Disney (which is today).  I was too afraid to actually state it as an actual goal (even in my own brain) - but those little boxes in the back of my brain sometimes talk to me and there was a very quiet discussion - one I could totally deny if need be - about wanting to hit that mark by this date.

When I very quietly thought about that being a relatively easily achievable mark - I had more than 2 1/2 months to lose less than 15 pounds and I'd very easily beaten that mark before and it was near the beginning of this journey - when I was most ready to do what I needed to do - to learn what I needed to learn.  This was a no brainer.  The closer I got, the slower it went.  I had pretty much come to the realization that I wasn't going to make it (still in the very quiet, totally deniable kind of conversation I have within my brain).

The difference this time, though, was that I wasn't getting discouraged.  I was still losing.  I was still totally and completely confident that I was heading in the right direction.  I knew totally and concretely that I'd get there and get to all the rest of the places I want to go - it just might take a while.  This band thing - it's giving me confidence.  This is a beautiful thing.

So in a few hours we're heading to Disney World to spend Thanksgiving with Mickey.  And I'm going to see what happens when I just relax a little and just follow the band rules.  I'll eat when I'm hungry, which I'm totally doing at home, but I won't have a house full of easy, protein rich, foods to grab.  So we'll just see what we'll see.  I think it's going to be all good.

I hope everyone has a beautiful and inspiring Thanksgiving!!

I'm so close to onederland!!  woo hoo!

And I'm 33% down!

Weigh in day

Today I weighed 203.4 which is totally shocking.  I've been up all week long, even before my food fest, until this morning.  I had mentally prepared for a gain of a couple of pounds.  I was ready for it, I even thought it would be good to have one now, when things are going pretty well - but huh?  not so much, I basically stayed flat this week and I will definitely take it happily!

A loss of .2 lbs this week for a total loss of 31.6.

Weigh in day

This morning I was 203.6 which is .8 down for this week and 31.4 down in total.  On to the next week.

I like putting this out here - it's my form of accountability.  I want it out there and public good or bad (which I'm sincerely hoping I'll be able to do).  This is the place I weigh in once a week.  So thanks for that!!

Weigh in Day

The number for today is 204.4
This is down 2.2 for the week and 30.6 overall.

Woo Hoo, I'm down 30lbs.

Onederland I'm still coming for you!

Weigh in and BYOC

Weigh in
This morning I weighed 206.6.  A loss of 2.8 for the week and 28.4 in total.  I'm not exactly sure why, but I was beyond thrilled with the 206.6.  It was more than I expected given my less than stellar eating choices last weekend - they weren't flat out awful, just not all that great.  But, Monday through Thursday I was spot on.  I had 4 good days on the treadmill.  I ate all my protein and drank all my water so I was really happy to see that I had a good solid loss.

On to this week’s BYOC – Bring Your Own Crazy – where we answer 5 little questions to get to know each other better. Copy to your blog and enjoy!

1. Tell me about someone you envy.

Envy is a pretty powerful word.  Everyday I feel very blessed to have the life I have.  I have good friends, phenomenal children, a good brain, a good job, food on the table, laughter in my life - it's a pretty good deal.  Are there things that others have that I wish I did?  Sure, but overall, I think I'm doing pretty darn well and truly don't envy anyone.

2. What makes you angry?
  • When people say one thing and do another
  • The fact that every time I hit enter in this post it throws me to the very bottom of the page
  • Lying
  • When people act as if they are listening only to discover they weren't at all
  • When people tell you something as if they know it's a fact when really they are just guessing
  • injustice

3. In an effort to help so many that seem to be blue and sad….what do you do when you feel very sad or depressed?

I hibernate for a bit and then I attempt to do something about it.
  • Exercise is always a good one, though so hard to get started when you feel down.
  • Find something that I know will make me laugh; a movie or TV show
  • Find a friend to go out with, even if I am not ready to vent about anything.
  • IM my friend Camille - I'll always vent to her and that's always a good thing
4. If you were stranded on a lonely beach, what five things would you want with you to survive (not people)?
  • A sailboat (I don't believe in absolutes like being "stranded")
  • Food
  • Water
  • A solar powered GPS
  • A Satellite phone

5. Repeat question: Summarize your week in real life and blogland.

In life it's been pretty good.  I'm feeling more hopeful about my husband, though not for any concrete reason - maybe we've given each other enough space that we can start to see each other??  Whatever, I'll take it.  Our basement is coming along and that's so, so fun!  Between the two main rooms down there I was having a barn door built to separate them.  It will slide on a cool rail system to reveal a 6' opening between the rooms that can be left opened if we're having a party.  The door got built today and it's absolutely, exactly what I wanted and I'm so thrilled.  (and speaking of parties we have our annual Christmas Party the first Saturday in December - any and all BOOBs are welcome!  We're in MD and believe strongly in the more the merrier.  Maybe I'll find time to meet Linda and Bonnie before then since they are both so close to me - we'll see)

In blogland - It's been hard to see so many of you struggling right now, but it seems to me there are some signs of a turn around and I'm flat out thrilled for that. It's been interesting reading all of the thoughts about kids and fat.  I'll be adding my own thoughts maybe tomorrow; it's such a really tough topic and all the thoughtful posts about it have really made me think about some things.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
