I need an intervention...

Hello, my name is Read.  I'm addicted to carbs.

I don't know why this happened.  I swear it was never true before I got banded - or at least not like this.  I think it's about what I can eat easily... think mashed potatoes.

It doesn't seem to matter that the potatoes might suck - meh.  I'll still eat them.  Maybe throw in a little stove top stuffing too... Seriously! The only time I used to ever eat either of those things was when I was hung over.  That's always been my go to thing for hangovers - give me carbs or give me death.  But other than that... uh, not so much... until I got this thing in me... well maybe at thanksgiving - but... eh.

I swear I get home from work every day after eating really well and having been perfectly satisfied and then I'll eat something like... boxed mashed potatoes - I don't even like them.  What the hell is wrong with me.  I can't tell you how many boxes of this shit I've thrown in the trash.

I need an intervention - can you help??  I'm perfectly open to being slapped around, or to suggestions, or to having a "hit" man (though not one charged with death) being sent my way....

I feel your pain, my downfall has been marshmallows. I never ate them besides camping before but now I seem to have one everyday. Very easy to go down.

Okay, I'm on it. if you see a strange man in a dark blue ball cap come towards you and you find yourself in the trunk of a sedan, no worries, I send him. Don't worry, the detox's will subside in three to five days. In the mean time you will be provided with high protein foods. We'll get you through this in no time!

By the way, I wasn't an icecream lover until after banded!

I can't help. I'm addicted to carbs too. I had wonderful polenta tonight - corn has protein right?

Don't make me send Dr. Evil after you! No sliders! :)
Can you try switching the potatoes for something like pop chips or SF jello? That might be enough to feed your craving. And maybe you are getting too hungry so you are reaching for something handy (although you must not be lazy..you still have to cook instant potatoes..I'm way to lazy for that) I digress, try eating nuts about 30 minutes before your regularly scheduled rendezvous with the mashed tots.

Damn those delicious carbs. *sigh* Since Brandi's got the "hitman" covered, I'll just feel your pain.

I heart carbs too. :( The first step: don't bring them in the house...EVER. That gets rid of the initial temptations. Hang in there.

All I can say is "I SO UNDERSTAND!!" When Justawallflower sends that guy in the dark blue cap, tell him to stop by my house.

I wasn't an ice cream lover until being banded either....what gives?!?!

Here is what I think. Don't buy the stove top or the boxed mashed potatoes.

But the things to MAKE them homemade. Then what happens to me is that I am to lazy to make them so they don't get eaten.

Booooo Carbs...

Mash pots and stove top for a hangover?! I gotta try that.

I agree with everyone else, in that you need to have a 'better' snack waiting so you don't go to the pots. and you need to get it out of your cupboard.

Also, what about making mashed cauliflower? I've heard that it tastes just like potatoes. sorry, i don't have a recipe, but just google it.

I've eaten more mashed potatoes in the last year than I ever did in the last 25 years. I'm addicted to them. No help from me about being Carb addicted unless it makes you feel better to know you are not alone.

Today I bought these gumdrop candies. After inhaling 20 of them and getting that sicky sugar high I looked at the nutrition info and found out 4 of them were 140 calores. So there is now over 500 calories of pure sugar pulsing through my veins. And what do I feel like now that I read your post. Mashed Potatoes, stuffing and turkey. I have a frozen dinner somewhere around here. When you find a good place for intervention let me know. I'll join you and we'll have loads of fun.

You always crave that which your brain says "You can't have that." For me...when I start to swear off chocolate, I have insane cravings that are completely insatiable. It's better to just let yourself have the thing you are craving...so long as you limit your quantities, of course. And if you are going to have carbs, then I recommend eating "healthy carbs" -- or, rather, carbs that come from actual living plants. Potatoes, rice, quinoa. NOT: crackers, bread, pasta.

I agree that it has a lot to do with what you can eat easily. I am working through the same issues right now too.

Lol, Brandi's got you covered! But seriously, spend 5 minutes writing down ideas from quick and easy meals that you can make after work.

Now cook a big one, divide it into 6 or 8 or 10 portions and put them all in the fridge. Now you can grab one and heat it up in NO time after work. Throw what doesn't get eaten away eventually when you get tired of that dish.

Awww, girl. You made my day - seriously! thank you for your kind words - as terrible as it sounds I've been feeling really dumpy lately and it feels good to hear a compliment. So, thank you again. mwwah! And thanks for the encouragement - I think you're right - its identifying the problem is the important thing. I really have and think that's what caused my sudden weight loss after I lost my job. I was no longer stress eating at my job. I mean I was STUCK for over a year - and suddenly I lose 15lbs in 2 months! I've got to figure out some balance - and I have some good ideas about how to do it throughout the day. Yoga, meditation, running, taking lunches AWAY from work. All some of my ideas.....
